The Thora-IQ is a reusable, realistic needle decompression and chest drain simulation trainer. Created from a life cast of a male chest, the trainer features lifelike skin texture and accurate anatomical proportions. The Thora-IQ was developed with input from frontline professionals and trauma experts to ensure a clinically accurate but cost-effective design.
Users can practise treating a tension pneumothorax at the 2nd and 5th intercostal spaces. A skeletal structure sits beneath the outer skin, allowing the chest to be palpated to identify the correct intercostal space before performing the procedure.
The Replaceable Needle Decompression Cartridge can be used approximately 40/50 times before requiring replacement. This means a long service life and a cost effective option.
At the 5th intercostal space, a chest drain can be inserted using the Replaceable Chest Drain Panels, which can be cut and sutured. Enhanced versions are also available that release blood when cut into, adding an extra level of realism to training scenarios.
